I just bought a 99 efi 150 from a board sponsor to replace the 79 v6 blackmax on my boat.
I've got the 79 off boat. Only cable was a large diameter cable with 9 pin plug at the power head.
Am I good to just hook the cable into the 99? What other wires are coming from the engine? Trim and water temp separate from the 9 pin?
I have got a manual on order...so hoping it's all going to be illustrated.

2 Purple "Keyed Run "wire
3 Tan/blue "alarm beeper"
4 Black "engine ground"(battery negative)
5 Gray "Tach signal"
6 Yellow Black " Choke /enrichment "
7 Yellow /red " Keyed "Start"
8 Red "Fused Battery Positive"
loose wires outside of plug
Light Blue /white stripe (power trim -UP)
Light green /white stripe (power trim - DOWN)
Brown /white stripe (trim sender to trim gauge)
There can be others but this is the info I have
That helps me get started. My old engine didn't have a trim guage hooked up. I've got a guage now.
When did they stop using the 8 pin connector?
