    2017 721 vs older 721

I am looking at purchasing a new or used Phoenix. I’ve narrowed it down to the 919 vs the 721. I’ve heard they raised the deck on the newer 721s vs the older ones which made it a little wider. I like a wider boat and I am wondering how the newer 721s front deck compare to the 919.

I have a 2013 721, I have not had it side by side with a newer one but saw one recently and it looked wider than mine. I will tell you this, I have no problem with my front deck and that is with 10 or more rods up there. I fish Rayburn and Toledo and so far I have run all over in almost any weather without a worry. The 919 is a great boat, but I think the extra length would be nice in rough water. There is a sticky at the top but I am not sure the dimensions for the front deck are updated for the newer 721. You won't go wrong either way.

    Here you go.

    Front Deck measurements
    A) @ console
    B) @ front cleat
    C) @ center of TM recess
    D) Length from console to edge of bow shroud on center line

    819/919
    A) 77"
    B) 68"
    C) 47"
    D) 78"

    721
    A) 76"
    B) 64"
    C) 41"
    D) 90"

It depends on the body of water you fish really. If you fish larger bodies of water, a 21' boat is preferable. yes the 919 can handle big water, but not as well as the 721. but the 919 would be better to maneuver in tight areas. Yes the 721 can maneuver in tight areas, but not as well. Also keep in mind the 225 engine vs the 250. If you want a 250 then you'll need the 721.

Pretty much sums it up nicely. I moved from a 619 (narrow version of 919) to a 721 due to needing (wanting) a bigger boat for long runs on Rayburn and Toledo.
