    Have I missed it or has the OP tried moving the engine by hand with the motor mate on? It would be pretty easy to tell if the mounts are bad or if the trim unit is sloppy.

    Had a Evinrude with a bow switch that got water in it and it would trim itself while going down the highway. Lucky I keep a eye on everything and noticed the motor coming up and took the wiring off the positive battery post to fix the problem. When I got home I changed the switch out and the problem was solved.
