2015 Yamaha SHO 250 Oil Change

Is it best to drain the engine oil or pump it out? I realize that pumping is much easier.

Probably best to drain because it will get anything in the bottom of the oil reservoir to drain out but I really think its probably not that big of a difference. Just remember either way to get it all out and then tilt the motor for a few minutes and turn side to side to get the extra oil out off the heads.

And the discussion begains again lol. Ask 10 people and you'll get 5 that pump and 5 that pull the plug. I like to warm the motor up and pull the plug because I feel like you get more out that way

Yep, I agree, pull the plug, better for the engine to assure all the old oil is out and clean / inspect the magnet. I like the tilting idea as well, thanks

Question if you never pull plug how do ever get all the crap out and clean off the tip of the plug so it can continue to do what it does. Not to mention the possibility of catching a major issue before it happens.

Draining it is simple takes maybe 10 minutes tops.

Everyone I know pumps it out. I never said draining it out wasn't easy? I used to be a Technician at a Ford dealership in my younger years so I'm well versed in oil changes etc

I change the oil twice a year on mine - I pull the plug and drain it when I do the full annual service, and use my pump for the mid season oil change. I think its smart to pull the plug as least once a year although I also know guys that just pump without issue.

Pumping is fine if that’s how you prefer to do it but to me it’s not the right or best thing to do not to mention it’s not cheap for all the stuff you need then add the price of a pump that you really don’t need.
