So how does that championship work? If I got an invite then I would have to purchase a nonresident Ohio fishing license just to fish?

It's not so much an invite. It's a qualification through one of the 4 qualifiers. Top 6 from each qualifier (boater and on-boater) make the state championship. You can fish the main body Ohio River or any tributaries on the Ky side with just a Ky license. But if you or your boater, if you fish as a co, go into a tributary on the Ohio side then you'd need an Ohio license.

So they going to weigh in on the water? Once you get out of your boat then you would be in Ohio. So you would have to have their license. Or are there going to weigh in on the Ky side somewhere. Yes I know you have to qualify, was just using your wording on the (invite only)

That's a very good question. I'll have to look into that one.

you don't need an Ohio License. you can be in possession of the fish in Ohio without an Ohio license, just when you fish in a tributary in Ohio you must have an Ohio license

Ok so... I just spoke with a rep from the Ohio DNR. He stated that you would NOT need an Ohio licence to weigh the fish in on the Ohio side. He said it's no different than if you caught them using your Kentucky licence and took them over to Wheelersburg, OH and had a fish fry at your brother's house. As long as you were legal in our angling of them everything is good to bring them to Ohio to weigh them.

I agree. Especially from my end of the state. But it's the state championship and it rotates from region to region. I was lucky last year because it was held on Ky/Barkley 30 minutes from home.

Looking for a Co-angler link for all four adult qualifiers. Message me if interested.
