Wire runs from lower unit to mid section of motor. Previous owner was not careful with the motor toter and only a few strands holding it together. Looks to be a ground?

I do belive that is a ground wire and if you fish in salt or brackish water I would suggest you replace it quickly. Not to mention the interference it may cause on electronics.
Thanks. I thought it was a ground wire. Do not fish any salt or brackish water but, will replace it right away.
That is a continuity wire and is not hooked up in the rite place.
One end is supposed to be fastened on the lower motor mount
and not on the gearcase stud.

Continuity Ground wire as best I can tell.
