How do you hold them in place to wrap them ?

Personally I use a silicone rubber tubing that Mud Hole sells for holding on guides, but I have used cut strips of masking tape, and also elastic thread to hold them in place as well. All of the mentioned ways work with any size guide you'll find on a bass rod.

Blue painters tape here. cut it thin and it leaves no residue. Tried the rubber tube stuff but was too time consuming setting the rod up for my likes. Have not tried the glue.

or if you're lazy like me, you can buy skinny masking tape (1/8") from Mudhole.

Skinny masking tape works, I was able to find it at a craft store, but ligature bands for braces are the ticket! They're especially useful for wrapping near the tip where there's not as much rod blank surface area for the tape to hold onto. If they work on the ice rods I've built with tips that are something like 0.8 mm, it'll work on anything.

Mudhole sells them under a different name. They can be had for cheap on Amazon. Here's a lifetime supply for $6 and change: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was using the low-temp hot glue before, but could never get the guide placed in the right spot with pliers and couldn't apply the glue without burning myself when not using pliers. It's possible that I'm just a wuss.

I use the 1/8 masking tape and use tape despenser from Mudhole... the Despenser will hold 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 at the sametime. Works well for me.

I use the micro-guide bands from Mud Hole as well. I find they are easier to remove while wrapping than tape when doing a decorative/ multi-thread wrap.

I just use hot glue. Heat the glue stick with a lighter. Touch the foot to the glue and then stick it on the blank. Just a dab will do.

Zip ties are hard enough to cut as it is .... I couldn't imagine having to cut one off a rod while it's holding on a single foot running guide. Heck, any guide at all for that matter.
I use the tubing that Mud Hole sells, You can cut it as wide or as skinny as you want, holds them securely, leaves no residue, and is easy to remove.
