I my have turned into Bill Dance

I have stopped tournament fishing but still am out several times a week. My back has paid the price of my abuse over the years and now find myself moving the back chair to the front and sitting while I' fish. It's amazingly relaxing and slows me down when fishing the bottom (which I needed). At the end of the summer I thought this would be
great but it's hard to flip docks this way. So I switch my chair to the longer pedestal seat pole to raise me up higher and holy crap do I love it. I can flip, pitch , and cast with no restriction. My trolling motor pedal is on the deck so I set the seat so I can work that as well and stay seated. On the weekends in the late afternoon I will make a Makers Mark and sweet tea on ice and I am in heaven. I think I understand why Bill always had a smile on his face.

Glad you are still figuring out ways to enjoy relaxing. The outdoors gives me a break from the hustle and bustle of things.

He was also smiling because he'd always fish his private pond in TN that had gorillas swimming in it...

Seems like every time he set the hook it was a 5lb+!

This year i started using a chair. Too many back surgeries. I might look into one of those skinny seats with a back molded on. I hate the deck space taken by a full size chair, especially if i stand to flip a dock.

They also sell a mount for your pedestal that the trolling motor pedal attaches to, this way every way you turn the chair the pedal goes with you. Fishing is more about getting away from the antics of life than it is about catching the best 5 and it seems like you’re enjoying it even more now

I throw my sit down seat in the boat during the winter sometimes. If I’m fishing ledges and deep points I’m usually spooning or dragging a jig. It sure makes my back feel better. Especially if it’s windy.

I started using a sit down chair on a power pedestal several years ago. I have balance problems and feel much safer this way. I went back to skipping a bait under shoreline objects. I still catch a lot of bass, just not as big. It’s just all part of getting older, but still being able to keep fishing.

I thought this thread would be about falling in the water or tripping over a hitch or forgetting to take off the tie downs.

Happy for you man that you found a way to get out there and enjoy it again. My day is coming. I can't hardly stand up for 8 hours anymore, and I'm only 42 lol. My damn foot and knees just won't take it anymore.

I have been using one of them chairs that fits on the front seat pole myself for years due to my back.....but if I am fishing with bait & bobber, I actually take a comfortable fold up chair with arms with me to sit in on the front deck in.

Having a chair with arms for long sitting spells is much more comfortable.

For years I stood up front with out anything all day without a problem. I'm getting older and my balance is not what it used to be so now I have a stand up seat in the front just for something to lean or grab on to when a wake hits the boat. I'm wondering how much longer until I have to install a seat belt up there.

Ok so I have a question...after saying congrats OP, glad you’re enjoying fishing for fishing’s sake! I’m also 42 but my middle/lower back THROB after 5 hours in the water and I have to sit.

Does a higher leaning post style style take the pressure off your back as well as sitting down?? I take 2 ibuprofen before I hit the water, 2 at 12 and I’m tapped out by 1pm....I’m much too young to feel this damned old!

The title made me expect a sales pitch for Hi-Seas line or Garmin LCG's. In fact, I was kinda hoping to find out about Hi-Seas line, because I'm already sold on Garmin graphs.

I'm a perpetual back-seater for now, and can only stand or sit about 10-15 minutes at a time. Mostly pitch or cast a Shakyhead or Dropshot, but also enjoy throwing a spinnerbait or C'rig. I've got bulged/herniated discs with arthritis in multiple locations, so I'm right there with you.

I am rather disgusted by the runnin' seats...the seat back padding design looks cool, but pushes the PFD upwards and jams the PFD into your neck/hoodie/hat/etc. A straight, flat back would be a huge improvement.

I always used my fold down seats on Erie...just too easy to get tossed out by a big wave. My partner always keeps a fold down on the rear deck because his wife usually rides with him when he practices. So, it’s there for me to use. It’s in the way some when we’re flipping. But, in our weekly Wednesday night tournament we fish a t-rig a lot. So, I’ll take advantage of sitting comfortably.
