    Anybody ever just pack up

One of our technicians went on vacation 3 weeks ago when he came back he turned in his notice he purchased some land outside billings Montana and said he was going to homestead it. His wife and 2 daughters has already left with a camper trailer and he is leaving friday after work his last day ,with the other travel trailer. He told me there going to live in the trailers and in the spring he plans on building a cabin, here is the kicker the well for the place is 1/2 mile away there is no electricity.and he plans on raising cows and horses and dosnt plan on working. All this has just blown my mind i just couldnt imagine packing my family up and heading to a place with nobody you know around in the winter time which is totally different climate than we have here and basically roughing it!!

Watching too much reality TV. That would be a tough thing for me to do.

Wonder what the daughters think of this one. Montana winter in a camper trailer, won't make the kids future any easier if they have ambitions to do anything.

I admire the guy. He realized materialistic pursuit is a fools game. Maybe he saves a little bit and got tired of the rat race. I'd do the same if I had more guts.

oh he will be working with livestock.

I could do it, my cabin has no utilities. water from a pipe we stuck in a spring, which is a crack in a rock on the side of the mountain.

He's saving himself. Obviously, he needs a change and is smart to enough to realize it now.
There's something great about subsistence living, it's actually quite liberating and refreshing.
If the physical stamina is there, he will enjoy it. Especially in Montana. Fishing, hunting, etc.

I hope all know what Winter in Montana can do!
One wrong move and one or all could be dead.
    May they be successful!

When i was running flatbed years ago, I unloaded in Rudyard Mt. not a bad day weather wise. Next morning woke up to 12 inches of snow. The worse part was, before the snow I was told there was 4 HOURS of heavy freezing rain. Cost $175 shop time to de-ice the bed so I could reload. The forecast was for light flurries that night.

Most people that "just pack up" have in reality been planning and executing it and didn't just pack up,,,thats just what the clueless others said when he did it.

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill !!

Might as well involve the whole family in the mid-life crisis.

Billings in the winter is probably going to be a surprise if he's never wintered out here before. His campers will probably freeze and he's going to be going through propane like crazy. The wind always blows sideways in Billings and when it gets to 20 below with a 30mph wind on top of that it can get a little sporting. It takes a lot of land out here to support 1 cow.
