    Question Merc 250 4 Stroke - Prop ?

    I have a Triton TR20X HP with a Merc 250 4 Stroke with 13 hours on it.

Currently, running a 26 Fury on it. No problem getting to 6000 RPM.

However, top speed is about 63 MPH and consumes more gas than my previous motor.

I am assuming that the 26 Fury is to much and should go to a smaller pitch.

So, I am asking for input as to which prop and pitch.

Currently looking at a 25 Tempest Plus or a 24 Fury.

The Mercury Prop selector states I should use a Tempest Plus.

    Appreciate any thoughts and/or feedback.

Willing to bet tach is off. 24 or 25 for that boat. Unless your getting bad prop slip. I'm not sure you can go wrong with either but I would bet 24 Fury.

Those numbers put your prop slip at close to 26 and when I put in 5% prop slip at that speed your rpms are 4625. So I agree your tach is way off. My 225 4 stroke Proxs turns a 24 fury to 6050 on a merc monitor.

If you would, please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the forum, and update your post with the Required Info. Thanks!

Before you do anything- you need some REAL data on RPM's and GPS Speed. DO NOT use an analog tach for this purpose.

Smartcraft Instrument (such as a MercMonitor) is really a must when trying to prop one of these (unless using the Computer Diagnostic System, which is the BEST method).
