Like how? It's relatively easy. The real benefit is that most often you'll not pay 'in-state' taxes (if your state has them). It's up to the seller to submit the forms (or you in some instances) and of course that really depends on how happy you are to rush down to the tax office and offer up. ;-)

Here in Ga for instance, boats are not titled, so you only pay the tax on the trailer (tag) and that's it. Lots of states don't charge sales tax on boats for out of state buyers either. (Might for in-state buyers... dunno' there, depends on the state.)

The biggest thing is the time and investment in making sure it's right before you get there. You either have to go yourself and inspect it, as well as have a mechanic do the ECU and compression test for you while you're standing there. OR.... hire a certified marine inspector to do the job for you, (especially if it's more than a day trip there and back). The marine inspectors are good, very good at what they do, and well worth the investment for a vessel that you are seriously considering. (Again, especially if it's not a day trip away.)

Transporting home prior to getting VA trailer tags. All VA and Game of Inland taxes paid in sale. Just no Va tag. I think I got my answer. I just didn’t want to do something illegal.

Trailering home isn't a problem. You'll have the Bill Of Sale with you. Your insurance carrier automatically covers anything (trailer) connected to your vehicle(s) for the first 7~30 days depending on your carrier. It's up to you, once you get to your home state, to head to the DMV and get the tag. ;-)

Thanks to all for the PMs and comments. So per DMV if tags are not provide at the time of purchase for registration and titling, purchase a 3 day travel tag to get it home. So I’m all set, Ohio bound Friday. Again thanks to all.

Besides tag make sure you call insurance company and have it added. Would be frustrating to have something happen.

I have purchased two boats out of state. In neither case did I have to buy a temporary tag. Just made sure I had bill of sale and insurance before heading home.

Congrats and looking forward to seeing pictures!
