I agree with the full face motorcycle helmet. Last Saturday my morning run was in 16 degree temperatures, I had no problems with my head/face being cold. I would recommend getting it large enough that you can put it on over the hood on a sweatshirt.

There are drawbacks to the helmet though. From a Safety standpoint, it is really hard to hear/sense another boat coming from behind you so you must be extra vigilant to check your 5 and 7 before turning. The other major drawback to a full face helmet is storage. They take up a lot of room and you have to be careful not to scratch the visor.

    Hope this helps

Though they're nice (wore them when fishing with my dad), I've never gone the helmet route myself due to the space issues and worrying about scratching the visor. I just wear ski goggles and a neoprene face shield with a fleece neck gaiter attached, both of which I already had for skiing. The brand of neoprene/fleece face shield I have is Seirus. It's excellent - cut outs in the nose and mouth area that still protect from the wind but prevent fogging, easy to put on, comfortable, etc. The ski goggles are nice because you can still wear your sunglasses with them. May seem minor, but it doesn't if you've ever had a pair fly out of the boat!

Yeah we like the Save Phace route. Sunglasses will fit underneath, as well as any hoodie, face mask, etc. Then just stick a ball cap on backwards over it all. Our daughter gave us Iron Man and Spiderman a couple years ago and we really like them. Mama is Spiderman (it only has one clear shield) and Iron Man comes with both a clear, and a yellow shield.
Surely not as warm as full helmet, but with a gaiter (and/or heavier ski mask) along with a hoodie we get by and have never had an issue with our ears freezing off.

That being said... we tend not to go out unless it's at least in the 30's. ;-)

One thing I'd like to add about ANY face gear is get some ceramic coating (glass or paint coating) that detailers use and put that on your shield, as well as helmet. HECK, put it on the windshield of your boat as well. I do high-end detailing from time-to-time and have been using ceramic coatings for 5 years now. You simply cannot beat the performance they give you in regards to paint protection. BUT FOR YOUR SHIELD the hydrophobic properties are outstanding! Water simply doesn't stick to it, so you never have an issue with vision because drops literally jump off the shield. (For your vehicle you want to get a dedicated glass coating, and trust me, you won't go back. Don't even need windshield wipers once you get to 30 or so unless it's literally monsooning.) :-)

+1 Full face helmet will rip your head off if you hit the water at speed.

I just slow down and pick a ramp close to where I want to fish. Trailer the boat if I want to go to another creek.

I wore a helmet forever and a day, then the Save Phace came along and I got a couple of those. I wore a helmet liner underneath. A few weeks ago I went with a guy that ski's and he brought a couple of ski mask and big goggles. I think after trying all three the mask and goggles is the way to go in a bass boat.
