For you all Harbor Freight sale watchers. Does HFT ever bring their tool chest on sale? If so, when? Approx.

You talking about the US General stuff? All I know is the 20% coupon usually doesn't apply. I'd keep your eyes peeled as we hit closer to a true Black Friday sale.

My H.F. has parking lot sales a couple times a year, the prices on items out there are greatly reduced. They normally have a couple different tool chests out there and the prices are pretty good.

Seems like they are having a black friday on the boxes. I had the ad, but I threw it away, I knew I would go buy stuff I don't need lol.
Look on Craig’s list for a used snap on or Mac box .. life time box VS a box made of thin sheet metal that bends with a light breeze
I’m with you there. Would rather buy something quality even if it means more or used rather than something that will break or rust out within a few years. Almost every tool I’ve bought from them broke, screw drivers would break loose from the handle, wrenches would bend etc. Guys at my old job would cream and be school girl giddy whenever harbor freight had a sale, sad part was they were all either engineers or construction inspections who would criticize contractors if they used cheap materials or tools
Harbor freight has some crap items but the US General boxes with ball bearing slides are darn good for the $$. Especially for the home shop guy.
Costco has some nice boxes, at least some of the time. I have two Craftsman rollaways and top chests. One set went to work with me, and the other stayed in the garage at home. Now that I'm retired, both are at home, and both are pretty much overflowing. One set is about 45 years old and the other 40 years old, and they've held up fine. I paid $100 per each box, new from Snears (sic). Don't turn up your nose at a used box. I haven't bought much from HF, except lifting straps, ratchet straps, and one of their little pancake compressors. No problems.
#64160 Is the model that I am interested in.

As others have suggested, Harbor Freight has a lot of things that are of stereotypical "Harbor Freight" quality. Then they have some stuff that's actually top notch. Those US General toolboxes are included in that. They compete very, very favorably with the stuff from "top of the line" companies that costs 5 times as much. On that note, I really wish I had pulled the trigger on the 30" mechanic's cart when they first introduced it. The coupons they mail out were getting it down to $150. The prices have slowly crept up to the $190 it now costs with a coupon. It's still an absolute steal - compare that thing to a Craftsman or Snap On. The Snap On version that Harbor Freight compares it to apparently costs $800, but I can't find anything comparable from Snap On for less than $1200 (okay...$1195...). I'm going to see if they give a better deal for Black Friday, else I'll be dropping the $190 on one.
People talk about others paying too much for brand name in so many other contexts, but for some reason tools and tool accessories don't get the same treatment. In some cases it's warranted, while in others the paying for name brands is even more egregious than in other settings.

This is the US General 44" box from HF. It's been in my work truck going on 3 years. Trust me when I tell you nothing beats the snot out of a box like being permanently mounted in a vehicle that travels the pothole ridden roads of the east coast daily. I've replaced the lock cylinder once (my fault for not keeping up on lubing the first one) but other than that it's been flawless. There are 8 of us on the field service crew, we all have boxes from every major player in the game and the HF is right up there with all of them as far as durability and longevity. IMO you'd be nuts to drop $$$ on a SnapOn unit for home use, but it's your money.

People said the same thing about my old craftsman box.....had it going on 30 yrs now....only a few very small rust spots where I nicked the paint.....no body damage to speak of.
The new bigger 44" with the side hang on box I got from HF seems to be made better, and is definitely bigger.
I will say, I did have to shim the wheels to get it to sit level, and the grease fittings in the aluminum wheels are junk.....they strip/pull out the 1st time you grease them.

I have a box like this one at work. Wouldn’t mind having one like it at home. For about a $1000 it’s not bad at all. The only thing I don’t like about it is the drawers don’t latch shut or have a detent to hold them closed. Had it sitting on a sloped floor by a drain once and the drawers would come open.
The Harbor Freight tool boxes are really nice. I wouldn't hesitate to go for them.
My big tool chest is a 30 year old Craftsman, and my only complaint is that it's so heavy without anything in it. Fortunately I have a tool room with one wall of lockers and two walls of floor to ceiling shelving topped with kitchen wall cabinets with doors.
