    Lower unit gear oil...

Hey guys doing my winter storage on my Merc pro xs/ ranger and changing the lower gear case oil. The oil is a little off coloured not much and nothing close to what I have seen on line.

Looks like you got water in it, time for new seals. And it shouldn't be that color.

Compared to what I have seen, it doesn't look like a large amount of water getting in. Could it be coming in from the fill/vent holes? I replaced with fresh oil and washers.

Not likely! Probably seals like mentioned earlier. Any amount of water in the lube is a major issue. Good luck on the repair.

That has water in it. Fresh gear oil is a very very blue color that has a milky tinge to it. Time for a pressure test.

Just curious, did you do the lower unit oil last time it was changed? What oil did you use if so.
