Baitcaster- 7' medium hammer. Spinning-7'6 ML st croix avid. I've tried a LOT of rods and I keep coming back to those 2.

i had a kistler h3 med light casting rod that worked great, now i use a st croix legend elite 7' med light spinning rod, and a st croix 7'6 legend elite med light and they work great really digging the 7'6 med light for the spy baits.

GLX 852c JWR with a Zillion SV TW 5.5:1 reel is my primary spybait rod but if I want to have a second one to chuck around I use a Megabass XX Flatside Special with an SV 105 5.8:1 reel. I use 10lb Sunline Sniper FC for spybaits.

Shikari P7000, I use straight 6lb Tatsu too. I think a light action popping blank is good for these baits

I'll agree with the ML spinning rod being the ticket here.
