Staple gun for Seat Skin Replacement (1994 Ranger 482VS)

I received my new seat skin from Ranger. The Ranger 482 VS seat has a fiberglass frame. The butt and back cushion inserts have ¼ inch plastic as the bottom. From what I can tell the stainless-steel staples are smaller than normal staples. I have a hand staple gun and knew it was not going to work. But I gave it a try anyway and the stainless-steel staple bent and did not penetrate the plastic or the fiberglass.

Since I’m mechanically inclined and like doing everything myself. That way I know what I have when I’m done. I’m guessing I need a pneumatic staple gun and probably will be using it once or twice. Hopefully there’s low end one I can buy for the job. So here are my questions.

Will a pneumatic staple gun do the trick?
What type/brand of staple gun do I need buy?
What size staples does Ranger use?

Another option is for me to take it to an upholstery shop.

If it helps, here are some pictures of the seats.

I believe you can get a cheap pneumatic gun and SS staples for less than what an upholsterer would charge, but probably not much less. My MIL does boat upholstery/covers (in NC) for a living and quoted someone $125 do install the ranger skins on a 482V. Check with your local upholstery shop they may be able to do it for a little more than what it would cost you to buy a gun and staples.

You can do this job yourself with the right pneumatic upholstery gun. It’s really a two person job, extra hands to help with the stretching. If you can get a upholstery pro to do it for $125 that’s a steal. I helped my upholstery pro to install full skins on my 519 took 4hrs total. He used spray silicone on the foam to make the stretching easier. Also helps if the skins are warm. Good luck on your project.

I would suggest using Monel staples. They never rust and are allot stronger. That is what allot of factory upholsteries are installed with. I use an electric stapler and it has been working fine.
