If the Coast Guard plates states 150 as max HP, then yes it is illegal to over power the boat.

He’s in Canada where the USCG has no authority. Laws on this vary from state to state so I’d make no guesses on the law in Canada.

If the Triton factory installed a plate, any plate, that states that the Max HP is 150, then yes it is illegal to over power the boat. If you call Triton they will tell you the same thing. Insurance companies will determine the max HP that the factory set, if the boat is ever involved in a bad accident.

Not illegal but most insurance companies won't insure it. Our boats are over 20' Savage and by CG ratings are unlimited in horse power.
