repower still need filter?
Repowering a boat with a new ProXS 4-stroke 175 (no serial number yet)
previous motor was a Yamaha HPDI and has a Yamaha canister style in-line water/fuel separator located in the bilge.
Can that be eliminated or should it stay in place?

Unless you are installing the Mercury water-in-fuel filter kit, remove any others in the system. There is a small fuel filter on the back of the engine with a water-in-fuel sensor. It can be removed and replaced with a boat mounted filter kit available from your Mercury dealer.

Mercury 3L/4 Stroke/Verado Moderator
As stated above, ONE filter only. Engine is already equipped with a separating filter.
The ALTERNATIVE is to remove the engine filter, replace it with a a bypass kit, and install a remote-filter (specific water-in-fuel filter kit) mounted in the boat.
For most bass-applications the engine-mounted filter is going to be the way to go.
