    Metal Garage Boat Shelter

Thinking of having a metal garage built/installed to store my boat and other stuff (mower, 4-wheeler, jet ski, golf cart). Looking at 24x32 or so. Double garage doors. Maybe add a lean-too on one side. Any suggestions on manufacturer or installers? Suggestions on what to do and not do. Lessons learned. Pictures appreciated if you have any. Thanks!

Think there are only 2 companies who make the materials and install these metal carports/buildings and both are out around Winston Salem. Not 100% positive. Got mine from Carolina Carports and did the ordering from Rocky Mount. Once you order it, they will wait untill they get 2,3 or 4 orders in that general area and then send a crew out with everything to do the jobs with all loaded on a big trailer. Took about 3-4 weeks for mine. Got mine 20x40 and closed on both sides and the back end and had the sides extended to 12' high which puts it about 14'-16'in the center. I can put a giant 5th wheel under it with plenty of room to spare. Being i left one end open i chose some heavy duty anchors for high wind weather because of the "parachute" effect it could have. If you are putting it on a slab of concrete anchoring will be easier. Had the 2nd building completely closed in with one big garage door and one side door. Added a 2nd floor myself later on. Getting it long enough i think is the biggest asset in case you buy a 36' or 40' camper, etc. Good luck.

I had a 20x30 built by this place in Wilson, NC. Here is the link https://carolinastructural.com/. They have a good website and I've enjoyed mine. They will tell you everything you need to do. Just wish I could have gotten the 24x30 ran into an issue with the town of Fuquay so I had to go smaller.

I am in the process of building with a Versatube frame system out of Collierville, TN. They're online. I'm going with a 24' x 36' frame with 10 foot side walls and 14 feet to the top. It's much like the carport units builders put up in one day, however it's much more substantial in structure. Assembling all the truss pieces was like putting together an adult erector set.

I have a large asphalt parking lot, and am in the process of digging two reinforced 12 inch trench/footings 12 inches deep and 36 feet long. Unfortunately it's raining constantly and I cannot get a mini-backhoe in there to dig dirt--not mud. Side walls will be OSB covered in Hardiplank which is far cheaper than metal siding and better looking. The roof will be metal installed by specialists. I'm going with 9' tall by 12' wide overhead door and a 9' x 9' overhead door with a second drive through door at the other end for my 24' Bennington. Total cost will be $7-8K. If I had to pour a full slab, it'd be another $4K additional.

Looking to buy/build a 30 x 36 pole barn or metal building within the next few months. The more I talk to these companies the more disappointing it gets for me. After they go through their spill Ill ask a few questions about wind speed ratings, snow load, and warranty. I don't think these are unusual questions yet most company struggle to provide answers.... Not sure what I'll end up doing.

I agree...I like the metal buildings but it’s hard to beat wood.....

I stick built a 30 x 36 foot 2 story garage for the truck, boat, work shop area. I'm needing additional storage for a travel trailer, tractor, ATVs etc. Just want a gravel floor and a metal or pole barn that will hold up to the costal winds & salt air we have here. Thought I could find something for 18-22 K range but nothing yet that I trust.
