DFW Area - How many of you winterize your boats?

Or did I just make a huge ass of myself for even asking.

Backstory, I'm being relocated from CA to DFW for work. I'm lucky enough to be able to fish year round and have no need to winterize.

So my question is for all of you in this area...do you or do you not winterize?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure where DFW is but sounds like you answered your own question, if I could fish year round I wouldn't worry about it.

I am 100 miles of the middle of the DFW metroplex. I trim the outboard down so that the rain water does not collect in the lower unit. Drain the livewell etc. Bcause I keep it outside now. It routinely gets below freeling by a degree or two. It may get in the mid to low 20’s a couple of times a year.

In 1986 I had a New 20 , Glastonbury/Carlson with a 455 Oldsmobile engine. I was living in Dallas at the time. For reasons unimportant here, my boat was at my dealer during a brief cold spell and it got cold enough to freeze and crack the engine block and the exhaust headers.

My recommendation-If you are living here and the boat is staying outside-winterize it.

Nope....my boat will be in a garage attached to the house or in a detached garage on my property. I will never store my boat outside.

100 miles East of.... We usually have a Hard Freeze at least once a winter. Hard Freeze is usually described as 27deg.F for a period of 36 hours , or longer.

avidbasser, you should be good here if you keep it in a garage. You can easily heat a garage enough to avoid freeze damage.

I don’t even winterize my boat and I live in newyork lol. Just trim the motor down and add some stabil for the gas. Never an issue with my 2 boats over the last 12 years.

He is Him. He needs to go easy on himself!

Whatever he does, he needs to not drink the kool-aid and start watching the Cowgirls play.

When the lakes freeze over in Dallas, I’ll winerize my boat. Hasn’t happened in the 45 years I’ve been fishing/living here.

Nope. Winter is some of the best fishing of the year here.

Welcome to the area and you can't throw a rock without hitting a big decent to great lake. Fork is just up the road and Rayburn/Toledo are 4 hours away. Pretty well bass fishing paradise. Great local and regional trails, tons of tackle stores and lots if people ate up with bass fishing. More importantly you are coming to an area full of friendly people. Feel free to hop in my boat and I will show you a couple of lakes.

I winterize my boat. I also fallize, springize, and summerize it too. The only time you need to be careful is when it is cold enough for the ramps to freeze. Other than that, fish year round here.
