I think it was posted awhile back, no harm in posting again though. Wish I had the money to spend.

Yeah, but the fit and finish is no-where near it's predecessors!

Yeah that one made me shake my head when he posted it, been many posted lately that I’m shaking my head over.

Jim, a little off this subject. I was looking at a 2008 Champion and it had the same stupid cooler lid that yours has, seems Charger did do it just like Champion. Not sure why they (Champion) ever felt the need to make it not open all the way.

Not the step. On my 2005 198 the lid opens all the way and back, so it stays open (maybe 100-110 degree angle). At some point they made the lid only open 3/4-7/8 of the way and guys tend to rip the screws out because it won’t open to even open to 90 degrees, more like 75-80 degrees.

I believe it was with the 200, since it got the 210 style top cap. I agree it is a PITA, especially when you're trying to put ice in it.

I think your correct, makes me wonder if the 198 they supposedly copied/splashed was really a 200.

    Not a 200. It was a 198 hull, but I don't know what year.

My 05 198 step-up lid opens all the way. The hinges are about an inch or so from the center compartment wall. I didn't notice the step-up on the Charger 210 they had at the Classic.

Some have mentioned that the rear on the charger 198 is also different than our 198’s, different angle of the topcap. If you look at the 200 elite, it has the same style of topcap that the charger 198 has. I don’t get to see enough of the 2006-2010 198’s to see which topcap style they have. Maybe they changed it after 2005????

Nice boat, they did a great job with it. I hope it is a successful model and it will be around for years to come.

Might want to check with West Central Marine. They sell both Mercury and Yamaha.
