My 2012 75hp Optimax shelled the air compressor and trashed the powerhead. In the end trading was more beneficial than repairs. Starting Friday I will be a Ranger owner. I am sorta bummed, my 175TXW was a good fishing boat.

Well it’s a bummer for that kind of trouble with a motor for sure. New brand or same your still going to be on the water. That’s the good thing.

Do you think this was related to the flashed motor or just bad luck?
Likely just bad luck. The flash doesnt generate any extra load on the compressor it makes the same psi regardless of hp.Originally Posted by Transom

Just bad luck. Optimax engines are notorious for the compressor going bad. Talked with a friend of mine afterwards and he knew exactly what had happened when I said that the engine stalled. Another friend went through the exact thing with his Yamaha. It happens
