Wilson Won for August.....sign up here.

Okay it's Wilson in August. Since the third weekend in the month is ahead in that poll we will fish this event on August 20th but I will leave the poll about which weekend open a little longer since not many people have voted. I will shut that poll down soon but I want to be sure everyone has a chance to vote.

We will meet at 4:30am at Safety Harber and fish until 2:00pm on this one. Again, you can blast off after completing your paperwork and paying.

Someone needs to give directions for those of us who don't know how to get there and also suggest a good ramp. (Safety Harber has been chosen - see directions below)Thanks.

    Confirmed Participants:

    1. Winn Hammond and Danny Howell

    2. Jason Phillips and Ken Crossley

    3. Avery Faile and Chris Fortney

    4. Charles Garrett

    6. Eric Ballentine and Roy Grinfin

    7. Cliff Logue

    Winn,

Count me in. Put me down for Danny Phillips as my tentative partner.

There are really two main ramps I would suggest. They are on complete opposite ends of the lake (both on South side of river). One is Safety Harbor and one is Fleet Harbor. Safety is just below Wheeler Dam and Fleet is just above Wilson Dam. It is only about a 15 minute run from one end to the other, so either should work fine. Their is also one about 4 miles from Avery's house (Lock Six in Killen), but I haven't included it because the ramp is basically right on the main River and wind and traffic can cause major problems when putting in there. It's also more of a narrow ramp with a pretty good hill before you get to the parking lot (not a good place to have a weigh-in). Besides, we want Avery to have to drive a little ways.

My vote will go to Safety Harbor out of the two. It has a protected area where the ramp is (kind of a lagoon). It also has a very flat, close to the water parking lot so it will be easy to have the weigh-in and get the fish back into the water quickly in this hot weather.

I hate I missed G'ville, but I like Wilson and hopefully nothing will come up to keep me away from this one.

Winn, I agree with Jason on the ramp. Safety harbor is good, plenty of parking and a lighted ramp. It is at the base of the damn and is protected. Turtle point ramp on Locke Six road has good parking but can get nasty in the wind and has a steep ramp. Wilson has largeheads and Brownies so you never know what you will get here. THe lake has been fishing very good this year.

Looks like Chris and I will be there.

And I agree with the comments on available ramps. I think Safety Harbor would probably be the best place to launch from since it's very well sheltered from the wind, it's fairly easy to get to, and would probably shave 20 to 30 minutes driving time over either of the other ramps for nearly everyone. I would definitely recommend that we avoid the Lock Six Ramp if at all possible. Launching and recovering there can be absolute murder if the wind kicks up and backing down that long, steep ramp can sometimes be a challenge.

I'm in :) Looking forward to going to a new lake. I had a great time this past saturday at G'ville, just wish we could have done better. I had a good fish pull off early on a blade and it really bothered me the rest of the day, I have to learn to let it go :)

    See everyone next month.

    Charles,

Yes, this ramp is part of the Wheeler Dam complex off of Hwy 101. If you are going north on 101, you turn left before you get to the dam.

Kerry, you responded about the ramp but didn't say you are fishing. Should I add you to the list?

    Eric,

Welcome to the BBC and the Alabama Bass Club.

You just joined the club. To fish the tournaments, you have be an active member of the BBC and show up at the tournament with a proof of insurance and some cash and sign the liability release.

Eric and Ken, Man we would love to have you. You can check out some of the pinned posts for details. Usually $30 a boat that includes big fish. We have alot of fun and sometimes even stumple on some fish. There is one thing that we all have to do is have a copy of insurance cover sheet showing exp. date and you have to have 100k of "Liability coverage". That is not much, really if you fish any other trails most require this or more. I did inot have 100K the first time I checked but only cost me $8 a year to move up to 150K. Well worth the coverage.

Wilson will be alot of fun and Eric and Ken hope you can make it. We vote on lakes every month and then fish.

I am pretty sure I will be fishing the Snagproof Tournament on Guntersville the 20th. If this tournament is that day, I will try to catch back up with you in November and December.

Re: Wilson Won for August.....sign up here. (Eric B)

Kerry I would watch out for this Eric B. He is the one I told you that managed to rip the transom out of his boat over at the big "G". Eric this is a pretty good group of guys to fish with. I have only made it to 3 tournaments but have enjoyed each one. I will be on Guntersville that day in the Snagproof tourney but yall should have fun down on Wilson.

Mark, guess we have to Eric's then that are hard on transom's. eric Davis being the other, but he usually concentrates on tearing up lower units
