    jet motor winterizing?

    Can someone tell me how to winterize a jet outboard? A friend of mine bought one and this is his first year with it. He just wants to make sure he does what he needs to do it. Thanks. DC

    Just like a normal outboard, except make sure to grease the shaft on the pump to force any water out.

    I forgot to add that you will need a flushing device attachment. If its a Merc the part # is 24789A 1.

    I had one for 8 years, never flushed it. Grease it, fog it and since the hang straight down, water doesn't stay in them anyway.

    I fish all winter. I just trim mine up after loading so the water runs out and grease it weekly.
