It's an absolute must. The original downtown on 17th st. in Murphyboro is the best.
The Lodge at Garden of the Gods has the best family style chicken Dinner on Sunday that I have ever eaten.
That area (southern Illinois ) is very beautiful this time of the year.

absolutely the two top places to eat have been mentioned. I had two kids graduate from SIU and have spend a good bit of time in the area. One did it in 3 years with honors the other in 4 years w honors with 2 degrees, just had to brag. I used to stay at the cabins at Stone Creek Golf Course S of Carbondale on Rt51. I fished his pond across the road from those clean neat reasonably priced cabins every AM and PM averaged a bass every 3 casts. Cookie cutters at 16". Other than that try VRBO.

I thought I would mention the crappie fishing at Crab Orchard Lake at the moment. I was driving up SR 148 a couple of days ago and stopped at a Crab Orchard Lake parking lot on the north side of the lake. I saw some large catches of nice crappie and catfish there. Anglers were also catching crappie at the Wolf Creek Road shore fishing areas. If you decide to try Crab you will need to stop at the Visitor Center on Rte 148 a few miles south of Rte 13 and pick up a use permit.

I do not know anything about the first one.
I've stayed at the "cabins" with the marina. Call the marina to book them. Their located off the lake. Bedrooms on each end - with bathrooms, kitchen and living room in the middle. Outlets on the outside for charging. Was there about three years ago.

Careful culling crappie if you aren’t fishing in a permitted tourney as it’s illegal
