    Mercury 225 optimax stering

    I am having oil drops from my steering cylinder in front of the engine, the oil was found when I washed the boat. any ideas how to fix?

    Prolly needs a seal kit...check the line fittings also.

    Most likely one of the seals or both. You can get a rebuild kit that contains two seals, wrench and seal guide for around a hundred bucks. Will need some fluid too so the system can be bled. http://www.boatsteer.com/ Not that difficult to do.

    I had same problem with my boat few years ago. Had new seals put in and system bled. Took care of problem. I had done at the shop, OTD if memory right was $125 or $150

    All these posts are right on. I would add motor toter style can help save seals. MotorMate toter eliminates all the side to side wear with towing. Some use the rod clips also.
