    1998 Cobra help please

I have the ability to purchase the above mentioned boat which I believe to be a 18'8" rig by the original old timer.
It has been kept in immaculate condition.
I know it is a wood transom/stringer boat or I guess it is but it has a Johnson 150 carbed engine.
My question is, will the transom on these boats take the additional torque/weight of newer 200?
Is there anything else I need to look for?
    Thank guys

Yes, the 188/190 models are rated for 200hp.

yes thinking about going to a 200hp on my 18'8. What you need to do is just the transom and make sure there is NO play in it. Try and move the motor. My boat is a 1999 and it runs great.

    My 1995 188D with a 95 2.5 200 runs just fine and not a hint of a transom issue
