First time out with CB Foil

I got a chance to get out for the first time since putting on the CB foil. 07 P2/200 Opti/25" Hi5. I wasn't sure how much I was going to notice since I was running the Hi5 this trip but I was honestly shocked. With the 5 blade my boat has a great holeshot as is but with the foil, 2 guys loaded with full gas and livewells jumped up as quick as me by myself with the livewells empty. Felt like I had more control too which was important this past weekend out on northern Green Bay.

    Was really impressed.

Put one on mine. My boats hole shot was good enough but became even better with it. Will stay on plane at lower speeds also.

A buddy of mine put one on his Triton tr21 after he added a pair of Talons. Got a bunch of his holeshot back. Chris Bailey makes some good stuff.

The smallies were biting if you could get to them. We were on Washington Island, Thursday and Friday we had SW at 25mph so we were stuck on the north shore and Washington harbor, even then the wind whips around that island. Saturday was NW at what had to be 40 (ferry guys said almost 50 when we left on Sunday) so that even made Detroit harbor real tough, we packed it in after and hour and a half.

I got 20 fish over the first two days on blade baits and snapping tubes, nothing huge a 4.98, 4.56 and a 4.3something. Wish I was there right now, pretty much no wind at all. Water was cold though (49) I think the gobies bugged out to deeper water and the smallies followed, made groups tough to find (plus we were limited to where we could go). West shore is the best but couldn't get there at all.

I wasn't in water where I could go WOT, rare day on the Great Lakes when you can do that so I'm not sure if the foil will affect my top end, I can't see that it would. I can run 65+ with the Hi5 pretty consistently with 2 guys and gear, fill up the livewells and I'm closer to 62. In cooler weather/water though I will hit the limiter.

My boat gets out of the hole quite well. While it did improve my hole shot, the biggest difference for me was the low speed at which I can remain on plane. Staying on plane at 23 mph in a 20' Ranger is quite the feat. Great for quickly locating grass beds here in Florida.
