Time to start setting up 223

Now that I've got my new to me 223, its performance is a little lacking IMO. It's currently setup with a Yamaha 300hpdi on a 10 Bob's hydro plate. It has a 27p powertech prop now that's sluggish out of the hole and topped out at 62mph 5000rpm. And yes the motors solid it just got a clean bill of health from hydrotec last week. If anyone has any experience in these boats, feel free to push me in a general direction.
    Thanks Paul

If raising the motor doesn't improve things rpm wise, you may have to drop down a pitch on the prop.

Did hydrotech actually run the motor under a load or just do a compression test? I have a hard time believing it’s just going to be a prop issue and if it is, then find 25 yami prop to try.

Yes hydrotec did a full time up, mystery filters and fuel line from the tank. I did fail to mention someone had worked the current prop and it looks like they added a ton of tip cup to it and the PVS holes are small 3/8". I believe this is where my issues are but I dont want to sink money into a prop that's not a good fit to start with. Just as an fyi it's either me or boats in general run slower here in AZ. My last champion (2003 206 250hpdi) ran consistently 62-63 runs 68-70 with the new owner.

Pats mentioned before that elevation kills hp. Did the previous owner give a claimed speed?

Previous owner claimed 72 was the fastest he ran it. Yes elevation does hurt performance considerably.

I have a 1996 221 Elite with a 1996 Mercury 225 EFI with a Balanced & Blue Printed 25 Pitch Tempest Plus Prop,8"Rapid Jack Jackplate, and Prop Shaft set at 3 1/2" below pad that runs 67-68 everyday and on a perfect day will run 70-72.This is in East Texas.

    Overpropped.

223 and 27 don't add up, especially in Arizona.

I’m running 04 223 / 250 HPDI. Whether 250 or 300 an HPDI needs to be propped to 6000 rpm. I’m close to sea level. I think you may have to under prop it to get 6K. You do not want to lug an HPDI and I hope Hydrotec told you that. Your combo might perform well with a 25p VMax T1, but good luck finding one they are like looking for a snowman on the beach right now. 1000 r’s low seems like too much low for a 27p, so I’m guessing elevation may be the culprit. I’m not sure a 25 is going to get you where you need to be unless your 27 is junk. I’d try to borrow a 25 T1 just to get a WOT rpm reading if that were possible.

I can guarantee I'm currently overpropped for this heavy boat especially in AZ. I just picked up a hub kit to try a 24p fury3 and 25p fury 3 I have sitting on a shelf. I will look for a 25p T1 but yes they're scarce.

Well that would be 3 steps backwards.

Thanks for the input everyone, I'm not sure the Fury 3 is the right prop but it will give me a better baseline imo.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to point out something that is completely irrelevant to my topic. BTW I'm pretty sure I'll be just fine with this 223. Also if you remember my post about the 396 a couple of the charger guys claimed that was 1 of there worst hulls.

    The worst.

Not sure why he doesn’t think that the elevation would have affected the charger the same way.

    Tempest is your prop. Period.
    25 is your pitch.

Thanks Pat. I was fairly confident a 25 Tempest was the prop to run but was curious if anyone had better results with anything different. Now my next question who to work the prop Steve or Mark?

    I know Steve.
Never heard anything bad about Mark.

Steve was trained by Boger, who's the prop god, and he's pretty dang good tweaking champ props.
