Ron and I put in the last hour of "break in" time on his motor...10/4

Ron and I went down on Thursday 10/4 and completed the last hour of break in on his 175 XRi that we rebuilt. It ran like a top. We were very pleased with the hole shot, mid range accelleration was excellent, and the top in was a bit scarey. We put in a Campbell Point down at Table Rock at about 11am. The air temp was about 78* and the water temperature was still low 80's. We caught a handful but really had to work at it.

Its a '95 Ranger 482 VS. It has a '95 Mercury 175 EFI XRi on it that we rebuilt and souped up a little bit. I got it up to 68.9 mph on the gps and got scared and backed out of it. And that was on slick water. I am anxious to see what it will do with about an 8" chop on the surface....

Did you rebuild the powerhead or replace with a new one?

We bought a remanufactured power head and struggled for months trying to get it to run right. Finally I pulled one of the heads and found that it had been assembled with the pistons on the wrong side. (Port pistons on the starboard side, and starboard piston on the port side.) Got another one and reassembled it and it is running strong. Fun project.

Awesome! Good job man. My 175 efi is on a pallet on the floor in my garage. I just bought a 150 four stroke. Wasn’t brave enought to tackle that project!

I had someone rebuild it and he did a terrible job. Only lasted 100 hours. Sounded like a threw a rod. I just shut her down and bought a new motor. Now the 175 is on the floor collecting dust. I need to sell it.

Did it come through the block? What year is it? How much will you have to have for it?

Didn't come through the block however it was rebuilt before. I would venture to guess that it needs a remanned head put back on. Don't know what I should ask for it. I know the ECU and lower are worth something though.
