The iron block 6.0 is more of a workhorse, not a hot rod.

Seriously...my last new vehicle was a 5.3 in 08 and I got in it with 12 miles on it and drove the fire out of it at my mechanics request...220k miles later I'm still driving the fire out of it...never heard of such...

    It’s in the owners manual.

Yeah that is one comfortable and powerful truck. You should have many years of nice towing with that ride! Nice choice.

The break in period is for parts all over the truck. You must have got a great one! When my 2008 5.3 let go I called OnStar while driving down the road. They knew more about what was going on than I thought they could. They advised me to head to the nearest dealer.....I thought duh LOL. They told me I had the truck under a load. I was pulling my boat. If you break it, they are going to have a good idea what the conditions were when it let’s go. I’d just break it in per the owners manual.

Since I had done everything suggested GM didn’t bat an eye at rebuilding that engine. I had 40,000 miles on it when it let go. You can google the cam or lifter problem to find plenty had the issue.

A lot of the manual is cya written by legal.

Never paid much attention to break in and nothing catastrophic ever happened. If they didn't claim break in, someone out there would try to tow a house or go drag racing with 2 miles on the odometer.
