High BP.... dont let it creep up on you

It did me and ended up with a trip to the ER. I knew this dull headache which wouldn't go away was a sign of something bad. Came home and pulled out the BP cuff and holy crap... Like 180 / 130. Being I'm no Dr I went to a machine at wally world and had it checked. 183/132 If I remember correctly.

So I came home packed up some stuff as I figured this would be a late night. And it was.

I'm deathly afraid of hospitals and medical stuff to begin with. So they immediately take my BP and its even higer. I think in the 190's so I'm starting to get even more freaked out. They take me back where the dr said ok we are going to draw some blood and get you medication to lower it. Once that's taken care of ill give you a prescription for a couple weeks and you will need to see a primary care dr to get long term meds. I say cool.

Well 5 minutes goes by and here comes an army of people dragging an EKG machine, an Xray machine, IV rack, medical carts etc. I start asking what the heck is going on and they say its just standard practice with high BP. So as you can imagine I'm flipping out even more.

Anyways they try several meds and nothing was really working. I honestly think part of that was they did basically everything right to scare a person to death. But eventually it started coming down after the last round.

Lab work, EKG, and Xrays of heart all were good to go. My God this night sucked balls.

I hate having to go to the hospital too. My way of thinking is...there better be a limb missing, but sometimes you have to. Hope it stays down for you. It would give you a scare.

Just like machinery, we need our PM's too. Be sure to have an annual physical. If you have insurance, many will cover it with no out of pocket expense. If you notice a change, get with your primary physician. Don't play Russian Roulette with your life.

For us older gentleman, know the symptoms of stroke and heart attack. Quick treatment can make the difference.

Get a good blood pressure monitoring machine too...so you can check it yourself at home.

I have an OMRON BP786N.......it was 60 bucks or so online. I also got a hard case for it to make taking it with me on road trips easier.

It is easy to use, and can be operated on batteries or plugged in. You put the cuff on, and push start, and it does the rest. It also has the ability to record and track readings for more than 1 person as well as a guest function.

It has an app that lets you see your readings for the last month on your phone, and it is handy for doctors visits, as I just hand her the phone and she can see & scroll thru the readings, as opposed to having to track it otherwise.

I have mine set up so it actually takes 3 sets of readings, 1 minute apart, and averages them out to show your your pressure. All 3 separate readings show up in the app, so you can see what they were.

I was having to take it 2x a day when I first started on my meds, but now, I just take it every now and then to make sure it is still good.

This is also a "must" as You just "might" have "White Coat Syndrome" where it gets elevated by going to the Dr. or Dentists; Hospitals...

Did You see the numbers they opine that suffer this? How many of those do You think are on an un-needed script right now? And then they find out that that script makes their arms itch so another script, then the that script gives them "tingly legs" then another script...

I take 3 tablets in the a.m. Do You have a VitaminShoppe™ there?

Here is a YellowPages list for Healthfood/natural food stores

    https://www.yellowpages.com/louisvil...al-food-stores

    https://www.yellowpages.com/louisvil...th-food-stores

These I found at the aforementioned VitaminShoppe™

    https://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/sola...SABEgKh7_D_BwE

    https://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/hima...aplets/h0-1036

These are the EXACT same ones I take. The brand "Solaray™" I've had VERY GOOD luck with.

    Asante

P.S. Also please make sure You STAY HYDRATED... This is where a generous slathering of Coconut Oil anywhere exposed to Sol really pays off. It protects Your epidermis (skin) Provides actual ENERGY and will assist in keeping You hydrated throughout the day...

Once the b/p monitors gets to You, there are some things You can do to narrow down any 'stressors' e.g. You just got home after getting stuck in traffic; The neighbor's dog shite on Your lawn and a mini "discussion" arose out of it. So take a reading before/after different scenarios.

If it gets HIGH when You're at the Dr. take a reading and snap a pic of the monitor to show the Nurse/P.A. that the elevation 'may' be due to Wh. Coat Syn. and make sure You "log them"...

Once You get accustomed to it.. Then You can play "High Score" After a romp or after drinking some Heart Attack meds (Monster™ Rockstar™)

A very accurate test for BP is to wear a monitor for 24 hours. It takes your pressure every 20 minutes. After an hour to two, you don't even know that you are wearing it. My BP has always been borderline high, and for the last 20 years I have measured it at home on my own, where it is always lower than when somebody else takes it (white coat syndrome). Last year I wore the prescribed monitor for 24 hours, had the results analazyed at the hospital, and my pressure was well within normal limits.

It appears we do indeed have a vitaminshoppe here. Of course not really near me but it appears I can find all this one Amazon.

So are you taking 3 tablets of each (6) total each AM. Did you consult with your Dr before changing over from meds to this method ?

Whatever you do, knock it down to normal levels first. Then take a look at your diet and exercise habits. Then with your Dr's advice you'll probably be able to cut back on the meds. The pills are better than the consequences of not keeping it controlled.

High BP is nothing to fool with. I have been on long term meds for it. Shortly after a shoulder surgery they gave me Vicadin, a pain killer which I didn't know I was allergic to. My BP shot up to 200/100 and my wife drove me to the ER. Had to stop taking that MED and switch to another. Not a pleasant experience at the Hospital.

If he gets the one I suggested or similar, it will log it on his phone as log as he installs the app.

All ya do is once the readings are taken, hit the button to record.
