    Buying a used outboard

Been looking at updating my current 79 blackmax 150
Nothing at a reasonable price local to me in mid Michigan so been watching eBay and few other sites.

Has anyone ever bought from a company called
    http://outboardsmotorengine.com
They have very good prices but the site is in Indonesia.
I haven't even gotten as far as what shipping prices would be but if they are as reasonable as their engines it could be a really good deal
    Just looking for advice.

Are you asking "Should I buy an expensive item, with a high failure rate on line, from a far away land?" What is a reasonable price to you?

I recall reading on this site someone actually sent them some money and didn't get anything in return. Pretty big gamble to send money overseas and having no way to recover it when things go south.

    Used?
Should be some used ones popping up, with cold weather coming. Are you considering buying a crappy boat, with an engine you want? Removing the engine and scrapping the boat?
    New?
    Tohatsu?

I say send them your bank account number and also include your social security number just in case they need it. It's just a simple transaction form Indonesia...what could possibly go wrong with a good deal.

Why too many good used motors for sale here, local, and other resources in the states. The financial risk could be no where near the risk.

The airfare for you and the motor taking it back for warranty work would be prohibitive.

Ok Steve, sarcasm aside, you just need to network as you are doing. keep putting out feelers. BBC is a good one. Try scream&fly.com too. Make friends at local Bass clubs and any other communities of fishermen. Keep posting here and checking boards. If your motor is still running, think about finding a boat and motor to purchase. Taking what you could sell your boat for and what you were going to spend on an upgrade my be easier to go that route. It will work out either way with patience. If I see an motors fs by Chicagoland I'll let you know.

I'm not a naive idiot...this is why I had asked if anyone had used them.
I've been looking fir a few months but Michigan prices for used outboards is rediculous.
I'd spend $3000 locally...I've actually got a few parts 2.0L engines but want something 95 or newer.
I'll keep looking and run what I have till I can find a reasonable replacement.
Thanks for the replies that actually offer assistance.
Winters fast approaching so I'm in no hurry.

Nah, if I can get a smile I'll take it.
Has anybody here bought a thousands of dollar part from Indonesia? I don't think so, but you can go first.

I'm pretty good at spotting internet scams....but their site looks legit....That said I'm not going to be that guy to be the first casually here.
Just hoping to find a bargain on a used budget friendly outboard. I've always had aluminum boats with small displacement engines. This 19 footer with the 150 is my first bigger fishing boat. Just can't believe prices on these things compared to small block Chevy prices. Just insane to me.
