My 94 3/4 ton, 4x4 7.4 started out a rig to take to the ski hill removed rear seat ,built a box for the skis & boards, it evolved into a boat puller/ camping rig bought a Cabelas tent that had a zippered opening that can attach to back of sub or truck canopy, added a med size Thule roof box & made some rod pods outof 6 in. pvc, got hardware & end caps on line,. I also hace a 96 3/4 ton 2wd with a 5.7 vortec that pull just a good, it has locking rear end.

I'd suggest you consider a roof top tent as well. Great for saving space.
Plus you can open/close in a very quick fashion. Safer, too. Off the ground.
Best of all, your Suburban wouldn't even know it's up there.
Even fully loaded, RTT, gear, etc. you should still get 12-14 miles/gallon.
