Trolling Motor Pull Rope

Lots of posts about ropes fraying, and here is a tip that can help with that. Most ropes seem to fray where the rope exits the TM base thru a drilled hole, and on my MK, I used a piece of plastic tubing as a guide for the rope. Found some plastic that was had an ID just larger than the rope and OD small enough to fit in the TM base hole, heated one end slightly of a piece about one inch long and put a flare on it using a drift punch. Remove rope handle, slid the tubing into the TM base. If the tubing fit is not tight, add some silicon or construction adhesive to hold it. BTW, Lowes sells a nice handle for about $7, similar to the one THM has with the wirerope

I slide a couple of pieces of heat shrink tubing over mine.

I put a new piece of paracord on each year.. and the one I take off is virtually not worn. Roll of paracord will last a lifetime of a boat.
