Easier to back a van in a spot.
Been doing this for 40+ years.
Why would anyone think that it's discourteous
to back into a parking spot ???
much easier to get out too!
driving a van you can't see what's coming

If it's a busy spot, I'll always do this. Easier/safer to back into a spot in a busy place than to back out of it. But if someone's close behind me, I'll loop around for another aisle instead of holding them up.

I almost always back in since I've been driving cars with backup cameras. Makes pulling out safer for me and others.

Just depends on the vehicle. A big truck / suv parking in small parking spaces its way easier to park going in reverse. Same reason many fork lifts have rear wheel steering. Better maneuverability.

I have a big Chevy Express Van and in a lot of places it is actually easier for me to back into a tight parking place than to pull in from the front, it's also easier for me to pull out as I am not backing into someone.

All of the said reasons above are why I back into a spot.

    Safety
    Ease of Exit

I frequently back into parking spots when I go to stores or events. It is easier to turn the truck in reverse and after you get used to it you damn near don't even have to look at the mirrors to hit the spot, you just know.

I have backed into my driveway forever. Biggest reason, I might get craving for a little boat time and all I gotta do is open the garage, pull the trailer forward a foot and lower the coupler onto the ball, unhook the charger, and I am off. I can be on the way to the water in two minutes any time I feel like it.

Back up cameras for one thing. Plus people imo are becoming so dam rude in parking lots, backing out of a space is more dangerous than backing into one.

I drive a big ass truck so it’s alot easier to back in. If I pull in the someone decides to park close then it can be hard or impossible to back out if it’s a tight area. I don’t see why someone would care. You old guys need to get out and enjoy life more.

With rear cameras it’s actually easier to back in the spot. I have a 360 camera though which is just awesome.

Company requires we do in company vehicles. I do it whenever possible.

Very hard to pull in straight in tight spaces with a F150, way easier to back in. Plus, with back up camera and proximity sensors you don't have to guess how close you're to whatever behind you.

yep...backing out of a parking space, not into one.

it's not just the person backing out...no one pays attention these days, and they will run into you

cuz then you'll have people driving the wrong way just so they can back in to the diagonal spot as well......

and the stores want as many people inside as possible spending money, so whatever they can do to get more parking spots, they will do it...........

And back-up cameras don't help some people....guy I work with got a brand new mustang, and 5 days after he got it, he ripped the drivers side exterior mirror off of it backing into a parking spot while watching ONLY the back up camera, and got way too close to the truck beside him.

This. The natural gas company I used to work for required it. Even before backup cameras.

Back in always, even my driveway. In a lot I back in or pull through to the other spot.
