    Making Chatterbaits

I have been doing quite well lately with a charter bait that has the blade attached to the jig with a split-ring. Would like to make something better. Is there a thread that explains what I need to make baits without the ring (ie - jig mold, hook, etc.)? If not, give me the skinny...

    Thanks.

Poison tail mold and a Dremel with a diamond cutoff wheel. This wheel is thin. I cut the hook eye as close to the head as possible, slip the blade on and crimp.

What is everyone using to fill the weedguard slot? The pins from Do-It are too long.

Cut the pins to proper length, Or just plug the mold with casting retainer putty like I do. https://www.rotometals.com/casting-r...putty-1-pound/

Thanks. Will likely just cut the pins. Just wondering if there is something simple/readily available.

I have also used the teflon pins pushed almost flush to the head... Then just trim off the nub.

I grind the head of the pins off flush with the heads. Or use JB weld to fill what I don’t want filled in the molds.
I use a split ring with a 90 degree flat eye hook and have no issue with it. So I see no reason to change it up.

Whole bunch easier to simply use teflon pins and line the up flush with the top of the cavity than to mess with grinding down the metal pins'

When pouring a few cavities at once, The teflon pins move or fall out sometimes. The pin with the head wont do that and will work better overall.

I use the Arkie Head mold. Pour the jig without the weed guard then take an ice pick and tap it through the eye of the hook. Be careful not to break the eye. Put the the blade on and squeeze the eye closed with pliers. Works great for me... Dan

Is this stuff easily removed if needed? Looking to do some mods and was considering the hi temp silicone. Might need to look into this putty.

I'm with 21XDC on this one. The poison tail in my opinion is the most versatile mold out there. No too much you can't do with it.

It comes out, But will leave some residue. To completely clean, I'd use water, dawn dish soap and toothbrush. ***************NEVER use the wet mold to pour any lead. It must be 100% dry from any liquid or you will have an explosion and lead splattered on you.*********************

The poison tail is pretty good, But not my favorite.
