I just recently acquired this boat, and I have a few questions about it. It came with a 46 LBS thrust 12 Volt trolling motor. Will this be enough for that sized boat or will it run long enough (it's just over 17ft)? It looks as if it is also set up for a 24 volt. The other thing is does anyone else have this boat model and have any info on it, pros, cons, etc.? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it, it's my first real boat.
Welcome - can't answer your specific questions, as I don't know the specs on the 278. My 98 273 has a 12V 45lb TM and it does ok, but not phenomenal. My boat was pre-wired for 24V like you mention, but I only have the 12V side of the wiring connected at the batteries. I'm running a pair of TM batteries in parallel to extend run time. Once I decide what I want to do on a TM upgrade next year, I'll just swap my jumpers around to a 24v configuration.

You'll be wanting to upgrade to a 24 volt trolling motor with around 70 Lbs. of thrust pretty shortly. The 12 volt will get you on the water, but won't do much in the wind.

My 273 (17'3") has a 70lb motor guide. Will scoot and move in the wind.
