No, no, no.
The State of Alabama is pretty much a hands off operation. No title on any of the above and 2.5% sales taxes on any new boat or car. That's not bad. They do get us for a personal property tax on cars, but not boats.
The state is flat a$$ broke, and our schools are not good and we need a whole new set of prisons. And our politicians don't seem to realize the states surrounding us have property taxes 3-4 times that of Alabama. On a $400k house out in my county, the taxes are about $1100. Compare that to Wisconsin or New Jersey. My wife is disabled, and we don't have any property taxes on our main residence.
Yea, we like our politicians to remain dumb down here.
If you're buying a late model boat/motor/trailer, any Alabama financial institution that financed the boat will have a UCC-1 Financing Statement filed with the Secretary of State. If that's your situation, you want to be assured that whoever has the lien is paid in full and issues a Release of Lien on the original UCC-1 filing to the Secretary of State. Ask that the seller document there is no lien on the boat.
So you like high taxes and government in every aspect of your life. Alabama citizens pay plenty of taxes. The problem with the schools is the waste. At least half the school administrators need to be run off. The assistants have assistants. The more money you give politicians the more they waste. They never have enough.
