Tilt / Trim noise & where to fil, & with what?l

1995 Mariner III / OG 166441. Raised it up today after L/U lube change and motor made a unusual noise when it went from trim to tilt. I have never done anything as far as the fluid is concerned. Looking from the rear, on the left side, is a plastic 'nut' near the left trim ram. Is this the fill for the fluid? And what type fluid should I use to add to it, and since its age, should I try and empty and refill? Til now have not had any problems with tilt and/or trim. Thanks for the help...BF 's to all!

    Use Mercury TRIM fluid.

put a dab of grease on the little balls at the end of the trim rams.
That may well be what is making the unusual noise.

    +1 to both above.

When checking fluid, the engine must be all the way up, with the safety support locked in place. Fluid level is "just to the opening" of the plug/fill, with boat/trailer level.

So, where do I check the fluid? Is it the plastic looking nut, and should I 'change' the fluid?. Thanks...BF

No need to change fluid. Just add if low.
