94 javelin 377A
Bought this boat and it has a Johnson v6 ocean runner and it's a long shaft with no jackplate. Question is will a jackplate help me out and get better performance out of this motor if I put a jackplate on my boat for this motor
-
It will run around 55 mph gps as is
-
Short answer is yes every hull can be fine tuned. Now the long shaft motor on a bass hull might be a tuff setup probably a Pat question.

Long shaft is standard 20"
Did you mean XL shaft at 25"?
If it's a XL there is NOTHING you can do that'll ever make it run right.
Trust me, I've fought that battle, you can't win.

If I measured right it's a 25 inch shaft , I went off what the web said to measure from , I can get a 6 inch jackplate for free from a friend , question is it going to be worth my time to install it ?
-
I don't run it wide open so 45-50 mph is a good speed for me cause I'm no speed freak on the water, but I would like to get a little better performance out of it for when I do need to run

The VIN number will tell you exactly what it is.
Regardless, it'll never act right with that motor. You can stack jack plates, change transom angles, and the best you can accomplish is for it to handle poorly. Not trying to be a buzz kill, but sharing experience.
You have to come up five inches just to be the same, then since that transom is so low you'll want to find another five inches of vertical height. Ten inches straight up just so you can then find the steering pivot is so high the boat will have a serious tendency to bow hook.
Best advice? Trade for a 20" motor, save yourself a lot of grief.

Thanks for the input , don't get me wrong it runs ok and Handel's ok for me I was just curious if a jack plate would be of any help for this motor, looks like I'll have to just make do with what I have for I only plan on keeping it 3 or 4 years then was going to sell it and buy a newer boat again thanks for chiming in and answering my question
