Re: Shooting Transducer thru an aluminum hull (Rincon650)

I had completely forgotten about this post. If anyone's interested in putting an alumaducer in their Xpress, you need to do it. I've had mine installed for about 2-3 months and it works great. My transon looks much better without a wire hanging off the back of it.

What can you do to get it to read at high speeds? I have a 200vmax on a x19!

Re: Shooting Transducer thru an aluminum hull (VMAXXPRESS)

It is only works up to about 55 mph. But that is about all you need, I mean, if you don't know how deep it is you probably shouldn't be going more the 55 mph.

Re: Shooting Transducer thru an aluminum hull (jr225ho)

My alumaducer stopped working. My graph no longer shows the bottom and shows a depth of 1.6ft. I've got out in the gulf a few times and actually ran up on a reef (scratched the bottom pretty good). Guess I'll either try and remove the epoxy/reapply or I'll have to go back to the transom mounted transducer.

    Standard puck transducers work also.

Will the standard humminbird puck transducer be able to shoot through the .125 gauge aluminum? If so, is installed the same way (prep surface, fill area with epoxy, place transducer in epoxy and apply weight on top until dry)?

Yes, read my original post. I am doing it with a lowrance puck.

Thanks. Can't hurt to try. Initially I was real excited about the alumaducer. After spending almost $200, I'm not as happy.

You have a very good point !!!!!!! My understanding is that they don't pick up structure or fish. that i would still need a transducer on back of boat for slow speeds to find fish and structure. I am new aluminum game.

Re: Shooting Transducer thru an aluminum hull (VMAXXPRESS)

I guess I'll have to put another transducer on the transom. I noticed that my alumaducer was no longer "glued" to the bottom, so I remove the old epoxy and reapplied new epoxy, etc. Put the boat in the water yesterday and that son of a gun still doesn't work.

    Speed Reeder

Here is a link to a transducer mount that the rigging guy at my local marina swears by for mounting transducers to aluminum boats. Have not tried it yet, but it is worth a try. Has anyone tried the speed-reeder by Johnny Ray ?

ok you can do that really long drawn out process or just sand the transducer and hull with 50 grit clean with windex and apply with jb kwik i was done in ten minutes and it works perfect. used the skimmer transducer that came with the hds5. i mean whats the deal with the fine grit sandpaper anyways you want a rough surface for the epoxy to bond to.

Don't get the Alumaducer...I had mine for all of 5 minutes and it broke on me...When it was working the reading was terrible anyways...
