Trolling motor Battery... What is the best Value?

I will be in need of two new batteries for my 24V setup. In the past I've used the wall mart marine/RV 27DC batteries. They are 3 years old and are reading "marginal". I'm curious what others are using and what would be consider the best value (bang for buck so to speak)?

Should I be considering other brands or stick with Wal-mart?

29 series Walmart batteries are the best bang for your buck without question. I have had great service out of several sets for boats I have had over the years.

Exactly what he said. Another plus, no matter where you are, there is usually a WalMart close by if you do experience an issue. BTW, i have never had an issue in the warranty period.

Agreed. They are just rebadged JCI batteries. Just be sure to read the date of manufacture so that you can get fresh ones. Generally, a good rule of thumb for wet batteries would be no older than three months.

Another good option at the same price is the 27 Duracell/Deka at Sam's Club with a little higher reserve than the Everstart. Batteries Plus carries it also, but a little more money.

Yep... I've had a pair go 5 years and would still get me through 2 days of fishing.

I'm cheap. So is Walmart. We're the marriage made in heaven, I use two Neverstarts for my trolling motor.

I agree with the Maxx 29 recommendation.

There is confusion on their web site about them not being available, but I saw them with recent date stickers in a store Sunday.

I have the Maxx 27 and just had one go bad. Purchased August of 2012. Looking at Lithiums for the weight but the cost per years of use is hard to swallow when you get 6 years from 2 $100 batteries.

I always take a voltmeter with me to the store and buy the batteries that have the highest static voltage amongst the inventory.

Much of a battery's life is randomly determined during the manufacturing process.

I also agree with everyone on the Walmart batteries. Although particularly after a bunch of research I go with the sams club batteries - Duracell platinum AGM. Some of the cheapest AGMs around. Like many folks on this forum educated on batteries. Theirs only 3 or 4 companies that make batteries under different brands. Deka aka East Penn makes the Duracell's.

185 minute RC compared to 205 on the Everstart.

The sketchy one is that Deka. They rated it at 23A and 25A.

I went with the Sams club AGM’s and they have been rock solid. I fish hard and fast and have been out for 10-12 hours and never had an issue. Plus they recharge faster than the wet cell batteries. The one advantage to the 29 series everrstarts is that they are a great value(I used to run them) and that while they are under warranty your never very far from a Wal-Mart.

Everstart Marine 29DC. Find the ones that have the most recent date. I would be hesitant to buy them if the date is more than a few months in the past. Keep them charged up when not in use and they will last many years.

Best value, usually best price, easiest to warranty, and getting the "most" battery for the dollar is the Everstart. However, I've seen the East Penn battery outlast the Everstart on several occasions.

I must be the only person in the world that thinks Max 29's are crap, three that lasted less than a year. Pro Guides have been much better for me.
