    let's talk shafer

Getting close to the time I like to get out there. Anyone been on lately and know what the water temp and water clarity look like? Is it a dirty mess from all the rain?

I get it, first rule of shafer is nobody talks about shafer. I know the locals are pretty protective.

Shafer dried up, just a mud bog now for the 4 wheelers. Freeman getting to be the same way, about 6" left in it.
Sent a couple of text but they haven't been on the water over the weekend, sorry cant help of the water conditions.

Indiana Slab masters will be having their crappie classic on Shafer the 20th, and Freeman the 21st.
SFIOT will have their classic on Shafer the 27. So the next couple of weekends will be busy. Those are the 2 events that I know of.

    Funny,
I grew up with one grandparent having a lake house on Freeman and one on shafer these lakes are where i found my love for the sport. I even remember in the early 90's walking lake freeman with a vhs video camera marking stumps and interesting bottom structure when they drained the lake. I have had lot's of fun on those lakes late in the season hopefully that continues to be the case. The weather is really cool right now for this time of the year and will drive those water temps down faster than in years past as I usually don't get out there until November. I guess I will just have to go and see for myself.

You forgot about all the huge sharp rocks they put in to tear up boats. No one should ever fish there.

Paper says safe light and for 8 hours. Tourney is at the Monon so plenty of parking during the sfiot. Not sure how many qualified for the classic.

I fished there a week ago for 4 hours and caught 6 1 keeper, I usually do better when the water temps are in the low 40's high 30's. Big cold front coming this week should really drive those temps down.
