US Open - Lake Mead Wx forecast

looking at weather forecast for lake Mead’ day 1 & 2 of US Open’ calling for winds 25 to 35, gusts to 50!,that lake gets flat out “ugly” when it blows !... hope everyone stays safe’ the TD makes the right calls !....

I agree. I hope they postpone day 1. Its really scary on that lake. The wind is no joke and definitely a safety issue.

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/
MONDAY...

* TIMING...North winds will continue to increase through the day,
peak in intensity tonight and Monday before weakening Monday
evening.


* WINDS...North 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

* IMPACTS...Strong winds in excess of 30 MPH will create dangerous
boating conditions on area lakes during the advisory period.
These winds will create very choppy waters and generate large
waves which could capsize or swamp small craft. For your
personal safety...operators of small craft are urged to postpone
their outings until the winds subside.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorcycle riders and drivers of vans...campers...trailers and
any other high profile vehicle should be alert to the danger of
these strong winds.

They should cancel the event. That’s a accident waiting to happen. Anyone who has been on that lake or Mohave know that’s is very dangerous. No fish is worth a life.

Yep if they let them go tomorrow you’ll see a lot of broken stuff when they make it in. If it blows like that there will be legit 6 footers and the shitty part is the winners usually come from extreme north or south end of the lake. I remember a tread not long ago about someone saying they don’t know how you could break a trolling motor off you’ll see more than one if they fish.

Yup. Almost sunk my boat in a storm out on Mead. It will be very dangerous if they let em fish. Its always some kinda weather when they have the US open. This is plenty enough warning for them to change it or at least postpone it. Tues its gonna blow too just not quite as much.

It doesn’t take much of a wind to make Mead dangerous. Anything over twenty and your beating yourself up. Forecasting 35 and gusts to 50 should pretty much be a no brainer to cancel. You got to respect the non boaters also.
