Lifelines and safety harness (they work)

Saturday morning I climbed up my sticks and stepped onto the stand platform. Lifeline was still attached and the stand straps broke. I dropped a short distance, then the prusik knot did it's job and stopped my 20 foot fall. I tore my pinky finger up but I can live with that.

If you don't use a fall restraint system from the ground up you should.

Were the straps old or did someone cut them?

So glad your here to tell us about it.
I use a climber. I never leave the ground without being attached to the tree, ever.
Even though it is a true PIA to keep moving the tree strap up the tree as you climb, hitting the ground is not an option.

Never can be too safe. Tree stand accidents are historically at the top of the list for hunter injuries/fatalities every year.

Glad you used the lifeline. Two years ago my neighbor fell from his stand and broke his back. Long recovery for him.

I just started archery this spring, and have yet to sit in my ladder stand. But my lifeline is there, and I will be wearing it when I climb up.

I never used one UNTIL and buddy took a 20 foot fall a few years back. He was lucky and landed in softish pinestraw. It knocked his wind out but noting broke. I'm glad to hear you're here to tell us about it.
