    250r question

    1E053084. 300xs vs the 250R (no numbers on 250r)

would the same setback work or would the setback have to be shortened for prop / lower unit to be in same location as the 300xs??

    Don it’s 16”

A 300r would be to hard to prop. I would be in the 34 plus pitch range.
I had a HPDI that did not have near the HP of the 300r and it had the 1.75 gears
Now the rev limiter was a little lower but I had to get a 32TXP tightened up to keep it below 6200

I personally would be quite surprised if you were above 31P (unless REALLY lightly loaded). Prop slip isn't likely going to be the same as you've had (it will likely come in lower).

Haven't seen any set back that far on the new 4 stroke yet (though I'm sure someone has tried it). Of course, I didn't set the Optimax model back that far, either...

Don with the 300xs 1.62 gears light I can turn. 32 4 blade 6280 rpms.
Just a gear change would put the 300xs over the 6400 limiter.

The R is a much stronger motor then the 300xs

I'm fixing to find out my 250R just showed up and the 300X is coming off. I'm at 16" setback now on my Stroker.

The Optimax Sportmaster and the 250R Sportmaster are different. The 250 & 300R run the same as lower as the Verado 400R which has a larger diameter. You would have to go up to get the same height.

The question is not about height but about set back.

I'm running same setback with my 250R as I did with my 300XS which is 10.5. Performs the same with the exception of better hole shot but slower on top end.

10-4. I have run promax, hydro, bravo, performer, etc. I'm currently running a 30 promax with all the holes plugged. Best with 30 promax was 90 with full fish load and full tank of gas. It runs 88-89 most of the time. Think the rpm was 5980 - 6080. Thats pretty close. I could look back at my merc. monitor or smart craft and give you specifics. 30 Performer was 91.?? something and the 29 hydro was 89.50 to best I can remember. These numbers was on a 95 plus degree day loaded to fish with the exception of partner. I also ran a 28 promax but it and 29 hydro was like 6100-6200 rpm. Not sure if I was on the limiter are not. Appears to have a soft limiter which maybe a false positive. You can run the same setup as your 300xs and same props etc. It may take em close to the limiter............ but it will handle it. Mines been wide open since it was bolted to the boat. lol. Its probably screaming, "take me off this idiots boat and put me back in the box". Its good to run em. Its not as fast on top end as my 300 but will hold its own. If your expecting the 250R to run with or faster than the 300XS, its not. Of course a stock 300R will run with a 300XS but I doubt it will be faster. What I do know is that it will get there much quicker. Much more fishable to me. I now use the same prop to fish as play. I love my engine and how it performs. Only wish I had more power now. lol Hope this helps. Good Luck, Woody
