    Prop shaft play

I have a 1999 Johnson 225 that rolled back into a post when I unhooked it the motor was up on the motor toter and hit the prop hub.
It was not a hard impact but it was the full weight of a 21' boat.
Now there is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch movement in and out of the shaft and I've got a knock coming from the foot.

Any ideas what is causing this !

Assuming you have run the motor after this impact, does it shift through the gears as it did before ? Have you checked the propshaft for being bent ?

The motor still shifts fine there doesn't seem to be any vibration in the motor just a knocking of clicking sound from the lower unit under load

Remove the bottom drain plug and look for pieces of metal on the magnet, if found, you have issues with the gears inside. The noises you hear are a sign of gear teeth breakage from the pinion gear.
