Motor Guide Tour Bracket Spring Installation, Advice?

The top pin holding the two huge springs broke on my early 2000 36 V MotorGuide trolling motor bracket. I have the replacement pin that I have had for years for a spare, but how do I stretch those two springs to install the pin? Any advice, I can't stretch those monsters? Special tool maybe? I searched youtube, but didn't find anything.

    Thanks for any help.

You have to take the trolling motor off the mount, disconnect the clutch knobs and use something to pull the clutch tight with the springs attached, then reinstall the clutch knobs.

Thanks John, I got it fixed, and what you suggested is basically what I did. It wasn't pretty, used a small come a long, but it worked. Thanks for the input. Hope you are doing o k.
