    Should I scrap my 598CI and my 788ci ??

These two are the electronics on my 1988 374 v.

The bow is the 598 with the tranducer inside my Minkota Maxum pro

The console is the 788 with the transducer mounter behind the boat.

My issues are: no side imaging on either unit.

The bow depth goes into the hundreds when I am running the trolling motor.

Often the screen is black on the bow

No depth at running speed on the console unit .

    I'm really unhappy.

Should I just scrap them and start fresh. I do like the idea of having the transducer in the head of my trolling motor but not if it doesn't work.

    Thanks

The 598 is a Side Imaging unit and the XNT 9 SI 180 T transducer came with the unit. 598ci HD SI Combo.

Transducers that are internal for trolling motors are 83/200 kHz 2D sonar ONLY.

There are three 788ci units. Which of the three do you have?

Wayne I'm going to check today . Will it say on the unit? So maybe I should swap the two units and put the 598 on the console and the 788 on the bow?

The model will be on the SYSTEM STATUS view and on the serial number bar code tag.

Makes no sense to have a SI unit connected to the US2 transducer and you have another unit that is not a SI model.

The units have the same quick disconnect mount.

That will work with the US2 transducer in the trolling motor.

It also sounds like you have issues with depth reading while the boat is up on plane. That usually doesn't have anything to do with the head unit itself, but more of an issue with the placement of the transducer on the transom.
The 598 and 788ci HD are both good head units and really not THAT old. It might seem like it since all these companies come out with new models every years, but those are still great units worth keeping. The 788ci HD is even network capable if you were ever to upgrade the 598 with a different network capable Helix.
